Boulder, Day Off

Today was a much needed day off. I've come to learn that a day off on the Journey of Hope doesn't mean a day off, it simply means you won't be riding for 6 hours that day (not to say you wont be riding).

I woke up early and got coffee with Ben who goes to school in Boulder and walked around downtown while it was quiet; he showed me some cool architecture of the city. Slipstream sports an awesome professional cycling team is based out of Boulder and we walked by their office and even got some free swag from a local coffee shop who supports them and promotes cycling advocacy.

We attended the 9:30 service at the First Presbyterian church which was a traditional service that we all enjoyed. After church the team head to OHOP, the Original House of Pancakes not to be confused with IHOP for a delicious brunch with friends and family. After brunch a few team members who go to school in Boulder showed us around the town and took us up to Flagstaff mountain which had a great view of all of Boulder.

Apparently you can see the glow of Denver at night

After our trip up to Flagstaff we had a few hours to kill before our friendship visit with Skies the Limit. We walked up and down Pearl street, the happening place in Boulder and a neat walking mall with some great coffee shops. A few of us decided to get Henna Tattoos for fun of the Pi Alpha Journey of Hope symbol on our calves, they look totally sweet and act as sunblock so they'll hopefully leave a cool tan line once it fades in a a week.

Don't worry Mom, they're temporary!

At five we piled into the vans and headed off to a local park for a friendship visit with Skies the Limit, a local organization that works with people with disabilities. The friendship visit was small but still very special to us. I met Bryce a young man who was very enthusiastic about life and excited to be hanging out and playing basketball with us. Ben's dad, Rod Thacker manned the grill and cooked up some burgers and Brats and we all enjoyed a beautiful Colorado sunset playing volleyball, basketball, and baseball!
